Steam to Porvoo (Helsinki asema–Porvoo) 8/5/2017 – 8/6/2017

Visit historical Porvoo, Finland's second oldest town, in rare style – with a steam train! Haapamäki Museum Locomotive Society's (HMVY) wood-burning steam engine Tk3 “Little Jumbo” 1136 from 1947 hauls original and comfortable 1950s wooden coaches taking you to a trip through time – first to gone decades right from the platform, and then past centuries in Porvoo.

This "1950s time machine" takes you directly from Helsinki Central Railway Station through the suburban landscape, stopping at Tikkurila to Kerava, where it switches from the main line to the freight-only Porvoo line and stops at Nikkilä. After the Sköldvik branch departs the old line in Olli, the rest of the trip to Porvoo is on a specially preserved heritage line through a picturesque countryside with its halts in old style.

The stopover time in Porvoo allows to enjoy the historic old town and a nice lunch in one of the many restaurants, for instance on the riverside.

There is also a possibility to make one leg of the trip by ship and see the beautiful archipelago between Helsinki and Porvoo! This is operated by m/s J.L.
