Railway Museum Day: "Vemppu" Special (Lohja–Riihimäki asema) 8/14/2022

The Finnish Railway Museum in Hyvinkää hosts its traditional Railway Museum Day on August 14th. This is the high point of the Finnish heritage train year. This year's theme is Railways 160 years in Finland. True railway feeling and lot of activities for all ages! 

HERITAGE TRAIN TRAFFIC

Lohja–Riihimäki

Haapamäki Museum Locomotive Society (HMVY ry) runs a heritage train from Lohja to the the Railway Museum Day and back. In addition, this train makes a tour from the museum to Riihimäki and back. The train has double traction, class Dv15 and Dv16 diesel locomotives, and wooden coaches mostly from the 1950s. Even a sleeper and a postal car spice up the coaching stock.

Helsinki–Hämeenlinna

Heritage trains will run both ways: steam from Helsinki to Hämeenlinna and diesel the other way. More information on these trains in separate posts.

Both trains stop in Hyvinkää, at the museum platform, for about three hours for the passengers to enjoy the Railway Museum Day event (NB: not at Hyvinkää station). Tickets are sold each way separately, so you can travel either from Hämeenlinna or Helsinki (or selected intermediary stations) to the museum and back and experience both wondeful trains! Or, if the other is your favourite, you can travel the full line and return in the evening on ordinary VR long-distance or local trains (separate ticket needed, as normal). Heritahe train tickets to Hyvinkää include the admission bracelet to the Railway Museum Day, and can not be bought without it.

These two trains are operated by VR in cooperation with the Finnish Railway Museum. In addition, the diesel express is run in cooperation with the Friends of Blue Coaches (Sinisten vaunujen ystävät ry) and Haapamäki Museum Locomotive Society (HMVY ry).
